March 25 @ 7:30 am - 4:30 pm

THE WALL THAT HEALS — VIETNAM MEMORIAL WALL REPLICA ASSEMBLY

Assist with this very important event by assembling the Vietnam Wall panels.  Please note that there are 140 wall panels (faux marble) and each panel can weigh up to 80 lbs.  We will be carrying these panels around 50 yards to the framing area.  They are looking for 30 volunteers, please.

Times may shift, so please check back to this website for the final meeting time.  Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0730; will return around 1630.  Lunch and beverages will be provided.  Please wear weather appropriate attire and closed toed shoes or boots.  Media is probable.

Your volunteer support to make this possible is greatly appreciated!

The “Wall That Heals” is a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall located on the Capitol Mall in Washington, D.C.  It is a 3/4 scale replica 375 feet long and 7.5 feet tall at its highest point.  The Wall and Mobile Education Center will be available for viewing 24 hours a day at Lawson Creek Park (1309 Country Club Rd, New Bern NC 28560), and there will be programs and ceremonies every day.  In addition to Set-Up and Disassembly, The Vietnam Wall Committee is in need of volunteers to act as hosts, parking attendants, and miscellaneous activities.  These volunteer shifts will begin on Thursday morning (26 March) and continue until approximately noon on Sunday (29 March) and will be approximately four hours in length.

SMP will be providing transportation for the set-up on Wednesday, 25 March and for disassembly on Sunday 29 March.   If you are interested in volunteering as a host, parking attendant, or miscellaneous activities, please contact the SMP Front Desk for the Vietnam Wall Volunteer Committee contact information.
