What: SMP Dragon Boat Races!  We’re looking for four (4) teams of 21 volunteers each to participate in the Oriental Dragon Boat Races, please! (20 rowing and 1 drummer/per team.  2 alternates recommended.

When: Friday, 20 August 2021 (practice) and RACE Saturday, 21 August 2021.
• Friday, 20 August 2021 (practice).  Meet at the Roadhouse parking lot at 1230; will return to base around 1700.
• Saturday, 21 August 2021 (race).  Meet at the Roadhouse parking lot at 0600; will return to base around 1700.

Who:  Open to all Service Members (priority); dependents as space available.

Where: SMP will offer transportation and location will be River Dunes located at 465 Harborside Dr., Oriental NC 28571.

Why:  Great volunteer opportunity, builds unit cohesion, great PT opportunity!!  LOA’s for each date, water, and t-shirts provided.  Breakfast biscuits will be provided on Saturday morning, and you can bring a lunch or purchase chow on site on Saturday.

Other info: You can register as a team or small group by emailing Jen Merlo at or you can also register individually at and we will put you on a team.  Every single volunteer is very helpful!  Please wear outdoor weather appropraite attire (shorts or swim trunks recommended), and bring closed toed shoes.   For unit teams, please indicate the Team Captain.  **** We are approaching full and only have a few spots left!! 🙂
